Donald M. Friedmann

Donald M. Friedmann, 80, of 3111 Old Bruceville Road, Vincennes, passed away at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Don was born January 10, 1932 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Howard and Clara (Ginesburg) Friedmann.

He retired after 37 years as Director of Pharmacy at Good Samaritan Hospital and served on many hospital committees. Don received his B.S. in Pharmacy from Temple University, his M.S. in Hospital Pharmacy from the University of Southern California, and did his residency in Hospital Pharmacy at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles, California. Don was affiliated with Butler University as Teaching Affiliate of Clinical Pharmacy and Purdue University as Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Regional Coordinator of the Externship program.

Don had served as President of the Knox County Society of Pharmacists, and was active in other pharmacist’s societies. He belonged to the Elks, the Hadi Shrine, Masonic Lodge #1, where he had served as Worshipful Master, and coached YMCA youth football for many years.

Don served in the U.S. Army in which he was in charge of the Pharmacy Department at the U.S. Army Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas.

Surviving is his wife, Kay (Like) Friedmann, whom he married July 24, 1959; three sons and their spouses, Mark and Jennifer Friedmann of Bloomington, Illinois, David and Andrea Friedmann of Newport News, Virginia, and Eric and Deb Friedmann of Fishers, Indiana; a sister, Ruth Lipkin of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and his grandchildren, Nicholas, Caroline, Jacob, Claire, Jordan, and Jenna Friedmann.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday May 23, 2012 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Julian officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until the service time on Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of the donor’s choice. Curt Small

Curt L. Small, 71 of 13293 N. Risley Road, Oaktown, IN, passed away on May 18, 2012 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, KY.

 Curt was born on February 28, 1941 in Louisville, KY the son of George J. Sr. and Eliza Lyons.

Curt worked in sales for Numerical Concepts and was a member of the Hadi Shrine; 32nd Degree Mason; a lifetime member of the Elks and the Moose. Curt loved his dog and meeting with his coffee buddies every morning. He was also a member of the Drag Racing Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his son, Robin Small of Florida; step-son, Brad Elliott and his wife Leah of Evansville, IN; brother, George J. Small Jr. and his wife Joyce of Louisville, KY; nieces, Beth Small of Louisville, KY; Laura Vincent and her husband Jack of Louisville, KY; nephew, Michael Small and his wife Bridgett of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Isaac and Millie Elliott, cousin, Ray Pierce of Louisville, KY., best friends, Dr. Richard Whaley and John Mineo and a host of friends. Preceding Curt in death were his parents, wife, Carol Ann Small, daughter, Melissa Small and son Joshua Small.

A Celebration of Life Service for Curt will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway. Friends may visit with Curt’s family from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home. Joan Halene Haggard

Joan Halene Haggard, 85, Vincennes, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday evening, May 17, 2012.

She was born August 19, 1926 in Vincennes, to John H. and Bertie Jane (Anderson) Miller.

Joan joined the US Navy during WW II; she was stationed in Bronx, NY, attending the Hospital Corps School. When the war ended, she was honorably discharged and returned home. When the war ended she met Vernard L. Haggard, who had also returned home after the war, and they married on March 5, 1946. Her husband was still in the US Navy, so Joan joined him at the Naval Base in Bainbridge, Maryland. In 1950 they came back home to Vincennes, with their first two children.

Joan loved the Lord; she loved the Church and her family. Going to Church and teaching Sunday School were her passions. For many years she ministered to nursing home residents and held Church at Crestview Nursing Home. Joan is preceded in death by her husband who died in 1983, a brother and a sister, her parents, and a son-in-law Tony Reeves. She is survived by her children, daughter Janice L. Reeves, and sons, John T. and wife Susie, Burley J. and his wife Judy, Jerry L. and his wife Janie, Jeff V. and wife Kim. Also surviving are her nine grandchildren: Tyler, Matt, Todd, Jerald, Adam, Jeffrey, Jathan, Jarred, and granddaughter Jade M. Haggard; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

The Reverend Mark Nielson will hold the funeral service on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Goodwin funeral home. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to a church or charity of their choice.

Jack Lee Blann

Jack Lee Blann, 76, of Oaktown, passed away 5 a.m. Sunday May 13, 2012 at his residence.

He was born June 13, 1935 in Vincennes to Rollie Blann and Fidelis (Owens) Blann. He married Opal Hollingsworth on July 30, 1955 and she preceded him in death on August 8, 2008. Jack was a petroleum sales representative for Growers Co-Op in Sullivan, he formerly served on the Oaktown town board, and the Old Oaken Days Committee. He was a member of the Shaker Prarie Christian Church, and had served in the Army.

He is survived by four daughters, Janice and husband Greg Karn of Brazil, IN, Linda and her husband Sean Wheeler of Marshall, Il, Beth Merry of Oaktown, IN, and Vicki and her husband Ray Simmons of Evansville, IN; a son Phil and his wife Peggy Blann of Oaktown, IN; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Karn, Eric and his wife Elizabeth Blann, Brian Blann, Jonathan Blann, Jared Wheeler, Nicole Wheeler, Hillary Merry and Hannah Merry; one Great Grandson, Reid Michael Blann; four sisters, Betty Blann of Vincennes, IN, Mary Kistner of Sullivan, IN, Sue Cox of Houston, TX, and Kay Gilham of Sullivan IN; two brothers, Bill Blann of Brownstown, IN, and Harold Blann of Niles, MI.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, 3 sisters, 5 brothers and 1 granddaughter.

Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Friday May 18, 2012 at the Oaktown Christian Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday May 17, 2012 also at the Oaktown Christian Church. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Oaktown Cemetery.

Pamela Jean Case (Elkins)

Pamela Jean Case (Elkins) 60, of Vincennes passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012 in her home.

She was born January 15, 1952 in Knox county, the daughter of Wayne L. and Bernice V. (Adams) Elkins. She was a graduate of St. Rose Academy and retired from Essex Wire after 25 years. She was a beloved sister to Linda Sanneman and Leesa Lyles of Indianapolis, Becky Lehman of Central City, KY, Barbara Schneider, Gary Elkins, Rita Gladding, Tom Elkins, Sheila Parker, Kenny Elkins and Debra Napier all of Vincennes.

 She is preceded in death by her sister Donna Patterson of Indianapolis and Michael Elkins of Vincennes. She will be sadly missed by her two sons, Traves J. Case and Christopher G. Case and his wife Tosha. She was adored by her 7 grandchildren; Mackenzie, Ava, leland, Garret, Abby, Jake and Issac. She was a wonderful Aunt to 23 nieces and nephews. Pam enjoyed being with her family, reading and taking care of the elderly.

Wade L. Goldman

Wade L. Goldman, 91, of Monroe City, IN, passed away May 11, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital.

      Wade had worked at Schulteis Furniture, and later worked as a custodian in the South Knox School System. A graduate of Monroe City High School, he was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. During WWII, he served in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator. He was an avid horseback rider, and a member of the Knox County Trailriders. Wade also enjoyed playing euchre at the Blue Jean Center in Monroe City.

     Born February 3, 1921, in Knox County, IN, he was the son of Orion and Mary (Robinson) Goldman. They preceded him, as well as his wife, Virginia, and a brother, Ralph Goldman.

     Surviving is a daughter, Sharon (Terry) Martin of Monroe City, IN; a son, Darrell (Brenda) Goldman of Bainbridge, IN; his sister, Norma Lee Like of Monroe City, IN; grandchildren Chris (Toni) Martin of Monroe City, Cory (Becki) Martin of Monroe City, and Jason (Maggie) Linville of Indianapolis, IN; and great-grandchildren, Brian, Caleb, and Shelby.

     Services were Monday, May 14, at 10:30, at the funeral home, with Rev. Brenda Wick officiating. Interment was in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Betty J. Hall

Betty J. Hall, 73, passed away at 7:59 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2012 at Daviess Community Hospital in Washington, Indiana. Betty was born on June 16, 1938 the daughter of Fred and Leona (Pruitt) Schutter.

She married Richard Hall on May 21, 1989 and he survives.

Betty was of the Catholic faith and loved to knit. She was a member of the Moose, Eagles, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. She loved her dog Suzie.

Survivors include her husband Richard Hall of Vincennes; son, Fred McCormick and his wife Angie of Vincennes; grandchildren, Megan Lintzenich and her husband Jonathan; Matt McCormick, Katie McCormick; great grandchildren, Rylan Hunkler, Madison Lintzenich, Quinci and brother, Bob Schutter and his wife Pat of Bruceville. Also surviving are her step children, Richard Hall Jr. and his wife Joyce of Indianapolis, IN; Terry Hall and his wife Anita of St. Francisville, IL; Carla Racey and her husband Bob of Bicknell, Mike Hall and his wife Judy of Vincennes; Sheila Risley and her husband Greg of Oaktown; 8 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her son, Eugene McCormick, brother, William Schutter and a sister Carolyn Pixley.

Funeral services for Betty will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway with Pastor Irwin Bales officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with Betty’s family from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday and from 12 until service time on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW. Maurice Bernard (Bud) DeHon

Maurice Bernard (Bud) DeHon, 79, was born in Vincennes, Indiana on October 20, 1932 to Louis DeHon Sr. and Anna Lorene (McHale) DeHon. He died on May 5, 2012 in his home in Vincennes, Indiana.

     Preceding him  in death were his parents; two brothers, Louis DeHon Jr. and James DeHon; a sister, Rita Durham-Fortner; and a nephew, Christian DeHon.

     Surviving is his wife, LaVaughn (Raney) DeHon; a sister, Anna Louise (DeHon) Williams; a sister-in-law, Julia DeHon of Bloomington, IN; a brother-in-law, Kenny Fuller of Vincennes; and two nephews and one niece, and their families in Bloomington, IN.

     A 1951 graduate of Lincoln High School, he had played basketball for three years for Chet Francis. He always looked forward to homecoming time. A Korean War veteran, he served one year and six months there, out of the two years he spent in the Army. Following his time in the service, he returned home and married LaVaughn Raney. On July 8, 2012, they would have been married 57 years. He was retired from Valley Electric Supply Company, where he had worked as a salesman.

      Bud was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He had served as president of the St. John’s Men’s Club, and was active for many years in Catholic Schools activities and golf tournaments, to raise money for the schools.

     A volunteer for the local Food Pantry through Generations, he also volunteered at the WWII Military Museum. For many years after retiring, he enjoyed driving veterans and friends to out of town appointments.  A member of the Vincennes VFW, he served as Quartermaster for a few years. Bud was proud to be a lifetime member of the American Legion and was also a member of the 40et8. He proudly served  on the local American Legion – VFW Firing Squad for military funerals, and was asked to be the Commander, a responsibility he took very seriously.  In 2007, he was honored to be named the recipient of the Vincennes Spirit of 76 Award.  A member of the Harmony Society, he served as president in the 1960’s. Bud was also a member of the Vincennes Civitan Club, where he served as president  and was named Civitan of the Year in 1972. He also belonged to the local Elks Club, where he loved to golf and had two holes-in-one. Each day he looked forward to having breakfast with his good  friends at the Olde Tyme Diner.

     Bud was a devoted husband, brother, uncle, and a good friend to many people. He loved his neighbors like family. For many years, he helped a lot of people in many ways. Many times he said he felt compelled to help someone each day, “as it might be Jesus”.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. David Martin at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Thursday, May 10, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
