These mammatus cloud formations were photographed on Sunday, June 15, 2008. Sometimes very ominous in appearance, mammatus clouds are actually harmless and do not mean that a tornado is about to form, a commonly held misconception. Mammatus clouds are usually seen after the worst of a thunderstorm has passed.
