Ruppel wins Governor’s Service award

Lois Ruppel of Vincennes was awarded the 2010 Regional Governor’s Service Award for Community Service on November 17 during the Region II Regional Governor’s Conference on Service and Volunteerism hosted by Indiana’s Office of Faith-Based & Community Initiatives in Terre Haute.

Carey Craig, OFBCI TChief Operating Officer, made the presentation.  Mrs. Ruppel’s award recognized the significant impact she has made through her volunteer efforts within her own community.

Patty Dreiman, Knox County RSVP Director, nominated Mrs. Ruppel who has been an RSVP volunteer over 12 years.  During that time, she has given 5,775 hours of service to the Knox County community, averaging 40 hours monthly.

Mrs. Ruppel is the co-coordinator for RSVP’s Little Elves Workshop.  She is also involved in Vision Screening, We Care Military Support Packs, Higher Bound, B.A.B.E. Store, Arbor Day, Red Cross blood drives, church bereavement dinners and St. John’s Catholic Church Angel Tree.  She is the coordinator of the annual RSVP volunteer recognition banquet, serves on the RSVP Advisory Council and spends countless hours on the phone pairing volunteers with community requests.

“           Lois is the type of person who never takes credit for the work she does,” said Mrs. Dreiman in her nomination. “People watch Lois and want to volunteer.  She inspires others by her determination to celebrate life to the fullest.”
