The Knox County United Way kicked off its 54TH Annual Campaign this (Wednesday, August 25, 2010) morning at the Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Bandwagon on the campus of Vincennes University. This year’s volunteers will seek to raise $280,000 to support 28 local social service programs in the community. Two early donations were announced at the kick-off. Old National Bank donated $8,000. Speaking at the Knox County Chamber of Commerce’s Bandwagon Breakfast, United Way Chair Patty Dreiman, Knox County RSVP director spoke of the importance to “Live United”: Give of your resources; Advocate for programs you are passionate; and Volunteer of your time and talents to local groups. She said “that studies show that 96 percent of all Knox County residents have been touched by the programs of the United Way”. She also cited the fact that 92% of every dollar raised goes directly to help Knox County community. United Way Board President, Pat Fankhouser welcomed everyone and encourage them to become involved in “Living United” and make a difference this year’s theme. Two awards were presented at the kick-off to recognize last year’s outstanding support for the United Way. Good Samaritan Hospital employees were recognized for their donation of $93,000 and Dumes, Inc in Vincennes was recognized for its donation of $20,000. Bob Murawski, executive director of the United Way, encouraged everyone to fill out their pledge card today and become a “Fair Share Giver” those who pledge one hours pay per month to the United Way. Murawski also spoke about the Bank on Knox County Program a first and second chance banking program for Knox County residents and Money Smart Financial Education Program which is being offered in 10 modules and three locations, North Knox, South Knox and Vincennes. Helen Seirp President of Old National Bank Vincennes Region and host of the campaign kick-off talked about the Day of Caring that is scheduled on October 26 and information, registration for jobs to be completed and volunteers can be done by call 2-1-1 the three digit phone number for Generation 2-1-1 the Knox County Information and Referral Service. Old National Bank sponsored the kick-off and is a longtime supporter. Old Natoinal annually sponsors the United Way kick-off event and participates in the United Way’s Pacesetter program that solicits early donations to the campaign. The Theme of this year’s campaign is: Care and Share for Knox County . . . Live United. GIVE. ADVOCATE. VOLUNTEER. |
