Betty J. Cobb Lambiotte

Betty J. Cobb Lambiotte, 84, of Vincennes, died at 3:37 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

She was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Knox County to John Cobb and Hillary McIntyre Cobb. Betty was a homemaker and member of the Old Cathedral, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of Isabella.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Floyd and John Cobb; and five sisters, Thelma Cobb, Theda Lavely Cook, Martha Pickett, Agnes Twitty and Henrietta Fruci.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Elmer Lambiotte (they were married on Nov. 3, 1945); a son, Mark S. and Myriam Lambiotte of Edwardsville, Ill.; two daughters and their husbands, Jeanne S. and Edward Marando of Winter Garden, Fla., and Hillary J. and John Hewitt of Nashville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Michael Jackson of San Diego, Patrick Jackson of Seattle, Jay Jackson of Winter Garden, Jennifer McWhorter of Rushville, Ill., Matthew Lambiotte of Green Valley, Ariz., Laura Lambiotte of Edwardsville, Ill., and Anthony Marando of Winter Garden; four great-grandchildren, Heather Jackson, Blake McWhorter, Sasha McWhorter and Madison McWhorter; and a sister, Lavera Hennon of Phoenix.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Old Cathedral Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Schipp officiating. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with the recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m., at Fredrick and Son Funeral Home, 313 Church St.

Charles R. Stone

Charles R. Stone, 98, of Freelandville, Ind., died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at Freelandville Nursing Center.

Survivors include three sisters, Rubie Marie Koenig, Betty Allice Newport and Ruth Mae Pinnick; and his brother, Paul Stone.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at McClure-Utt Funeral Home in Bicknell. Burial will be in the Washington Park East Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to the time of the service on Tuesday, at the funeral home.

 

George “Rusty” Moore

George "Rusty" Moore, 66, of 715 Maple St., Bicknell, died at 10:05 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at his home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1942, in Knox County. George worked at Ewing Printing and was a 20-year member of the French Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Moore III and Golda Patrick Moore.

Survivors include a son, George "Jeff" and Roxanne Moore; three grandchildren, George "Aiden" Moore, Kecia D. Trowbridge and Trevor E. Trowbridge; two brothers, Patrick and Patty Moore and Jimmy Moore; and a sister, Jeanne and Harold Holloway.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McClure-Utt Funeral Home in Bicknell, with the Rev. Ron Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in Asbury Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Bobby Lee Thompson

Bobby Lee Thompson, 77, of 3775 North Camp Arthur Road, Vincennes went to be with the Lord on November 16, 2008 at 2 p.m.

He was born on May 21, 1931 in Knox County Indiana to Levi & Emily (Dunn) Thompson.

Bobby retired from Prestolite after 37 years. He belonged to the First Church of God in Vincennes. He was an Army veteran having served in the Korean War. His hobbies included fishing, mushroom hunting, and reading Civil War history.  He devoted his life to his family and the Lord.

He is survived by his wife, Vera (Overton) Thompson whom he married September 26, 1954.  Also surviving is one daughter, Sandra Weisbrod of Vincennes, two sons, Randy Thompson and his wife Terri of Vincennes and Bill Thompson and his wife Lorrie of Monroe City, 5 grandchildren, Sarah & Eli Thompson, Adam & Tucker Weisbrod, and Shelby Wortman, & 2 great-grandchildren, Logan and Lahni Weisbrod. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceding Bobby in death were 2 brothers, Woodrow Thompson and Sylvester “Bud” Thompson, and two sisters, Marie Castro and Thelma Ragle.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Georg Karl officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Sebastian V. “Butch” Yochum

Sebastian V. “Butch” Yochum, 92, of Vincennes, Indiana passed on November 15, 2008 at 5:13 a.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. 

He was born February 13, 1916 in Vincennes, Indiana to Bernard and Agnes (Dahms) Yochum.

Sebastian was a founding member of the Vincennes Township Volunteer Fire Department, which was operated out of his garage and later became the first volunteer Township Firehouse and became one of the first paid firemen.

He retired from the U.S. Army in 1960 where had served in World War II and the Korean War. When he returned to Vincennes he worked as a cable technician for CATV and also worked for the city of Vincennes as a meter man and has worked for the Vincennes Catholic Schools in maintenance.

Sebastian was a member of the St. John Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, lifetime member of the V.F.W., American Legion, and U.S. Civil Defense Corps.  He was an avid supporter of the Indiana Military Museum, and was a associate member of the Indiana Sheriff’s Department Association.

Surviving are four children, James Robert Yochum and his wife Diana Lynn of Vincennes, Kenneth Michael Yochum and his wife Linda P. of Vincennes, Thomas Richard Yochum and his wife Margaret of Texas, and Carol Ann Grostefon & her husband Richard of Winamac, IN.  Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, one sister Bernadine Yochum of Vincennes, one brother Francis “Short” Yochum of Vincennes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lucille Marie (Fleck) Yochum  whom he married on Sept. 4, 1940 and passed away on September 5, 1986, one son Darrell Francis Yochum, and one brother Harold Yochum. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday November 18, 2008 at St. John’s Catholic Church with Celebrant David Fleck officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. before the service at Goodwin Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be to the Indiana Military Museum or St. John’s Catholic Church.

Robert (Mick) Hill

Robert (Mick) Hill, 80, of Bruceville died at 3:22 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Bruceville to Gordon Don Hill and Ina (Slyards) Hill. Robert was owner-operator of CM Hill Co. Inc. Hills Lucky Dollar for 45 years and was the Washington Township assessor. He was a charter member and past fire chief for the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was an Army veteran, attended Word of Life Church and was a member of Bruceville Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Boyd) Hill of Bruceville. They were married on Feb. 20, 1955. Other survivors include two sons, Michael R. Hill and Gordon M. Hill, both of Bruceville; a grandchild, Jennifer Hill of Clayton, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. James Boyd of Bruceville; two nieces, Andrea Boyd-Tilly and husband Jeff of Newburgh and Renee Boyd-Goodwin and husband Burt of rural Bruceville; a nephew, Dustin and wife Nicole Boyd of rural Bruceville; and six great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and a brother.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bruceville Christian Church, with Pastor John Moreland and the Rev. Glenn Turner officiating. Interment will be in Bruceville Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Jason Ferrell Jones

Jason Ferrell Jones, 32, of Vincennes, IN passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, of a heart attack at the home of his aunt Madeline Neal.

Jason was born June 28, 1976 in Vincennes, IN. His wife, Jackie (Petrowski) Jones was born and raised in Terre Haute. Jason is the father of three beautiful children: Jacob 9, Jasmine, 7, and Russell, who is currently stationed in Iraq. Jason was loved by multiple aunts, uncles, cousins and a nephew, Jayslin, 3.

Jason was a graduate of Lincoln High School, played baseball and was a member of the show choir and band. Jason attended Vincennes University on a music scholarship.

 He was a loving and caring father who was dedicated to raising his children. His commitment in life was to always give the best care and attention to his children. Jason’s self-sacrificial love for his family and children was evident by the overflow of unconditional love that was demonstrated by his sweet and gentle spirit. His desire for peace and unity in his family was displayed by the hugs and affection he daily gave to his family. His words that he always stated, as he departed his family was “I love you.”

His grandparents, Bob and Lorna Neal, and Harry and Saritta Jones, brother Robert Lee Jones, uncle David Jones, and a cousin, Sherry Price, preceded him in death.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, 505 Main Street, Vincennes, with the Rev. Jim Evans and the Rev. Dusty Small officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends are invited to share memories of Jason with the family on Tuesday, from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.

 

Agnes Marie “Woolard” Richards

Agnes Marie “Woolard” Richards, 80, died at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 at her home in Bicknell.

She was born Oct. 21, 1928 in Sullivan, IN to Viola “Buchanan” and John Woolard. She married James Orville Richards are March 22, 1946. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, James Richards Jr. of Spokane, Washington, and Wayne Richards of Bicknell; three daughters, Viola Irene Phipps of Vincennes, Brenda West of Bicknell, and Debbie Gossar of Odon, IN; two brothers Charles Woolard of Illinois and Frank Woolard of Bicknell; and two sisters, Velma Price of Bloomington, IN and Connie Loving of Bicknell.

Her parents, three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at the McClure-Utt Funeral Home in Bicknell, Pastor Seth Alexander officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008. Interment will be at Indiana Prairie Cemetery.

Kenneth Ray Joslin

Kenneth Ray Joslin, 77, of Bicknell, died at 3:51 a.m. Friday, Nov 7, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was born Nov 18, 1930, in Vincennes, the son of the late Carl and Belle Hayes Joslin. He married June McCoy on Sept 10, 1955, owned and operated Joslin Farms, was a member of the N.R.A. and American Cattleman's Association and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, June; two sons, Jeff Joslin and his wife Chris of Mahomet, Ill, and Jay Joslin and wife Cendy of Bicknell; a daughter, Jo Lori and Jay Singleton of Vincennes; six grandchildren, Cal Joslin, Beck Joslin, Erin and Adam Lubbehusen, Emily Joslin Jared Tyler Singleton and Kristen Singleton; a brother, Gordon Joslin and wife Claudia of Indianapolis; a sister, Shirley Joslin of Plainfield, Ind; sisters-in-law Georgia Lee and Dr. Jerry Like of Elberfield Ind., and Jerri Sue McCoy of Monroe City.

Services will be private.

James William McMahon

James William McMahon of Bicknell departed his earthly life with his family at his side at 10:53 p.m. on Wednesday Nov. 5 from Crestview Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

Bill, as all knew him, was born in Bicknell on Jan. 5, 1922 where he lived throughout his life. His mother Marion Cullen and only sister, Margaret Campbell-Bittourna preceded him in death.

Bill was very active in his community and church; beginning at the First Baptist, where he taught, sang with the choir, and was the Sunday School Superintendent. In his later years he transferred his membership to the United Methodist Church where he continued to be a soldier for the Lord.

Bill was a graduate of Bicknell High School, and then went on to attend Indiana State University. On Jan. 20, 1945 Bill married Evelyn Nomady, while on leave from the US Navy during WWII.

Bill was a very active and civic minded man, serving not only his church, but as a Bicknell City Councilman and former Mayor of Bicknell. He served as President of the Bicknell Civitan Club, a 32nd degree Mason and served as Worshipful Master of the Masons. He also was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Bill retired from Prestolite in May of 1985 after having served as their U.A.W. President for 37 yrs. Bill was also very active at the national level of the U.A.W. serving on the Pension Board and Bargaining Committee. He often traveled to various factories to help with bargaining issues. Bill was also appointed to the Board of Trustees for Ivy Tech College.

While Bill thrived on helping people his passion was his family. His wife Evelyn, daughter Kimberly and her husband Merle Moore of Vincennes, his grandson and pride and joy, Eric William Moore, and his nephew William Lawrence Campbell of Littleton, Colorado were the joys of his life.

A Celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday Nov. 11 at the United Methodist Church in Bicknell. Burial will be at Bicknell Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Church where there will be a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.

LaVonda Noonan

LaVonda Noonan, 80, departed life on November 6, 2008 to wait in heaven for her life partner, Richard Noonan, Sr. LaVonda and Richard would have celebrated 61 years of marriage on November 29, 2008.

Richard and LaVonda met when she was 15 years old. Their love produced two sons and a daughter. She will be sadly missed by her children; Richard Noonan Jr. and his wife Mona, Doug Noonan and his fiancée Cheryl, all of Bicknell and Callie Zak and her husband Kenny of Hebron, KY.

They have 8 grandchildren; Melissa Wright, Rachelle Vernon, Alana Brock, Brent Noonan, Jared Zak, Casey, Ryan and Bradley Noonan. They also have 8 great-grandchildren.

LaVonda was born in Bicknell Indiana on September 23, 1928 and was preceded in death by her mother Callie (Ruggles) Gibson, father Oscar (Roebuck) Gibson, and sister Gloria Lee Trotter.

She was a certified Beautician and homemaker and was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

A funeral service will be held at the McClure Utt Funeral home in Bicknell on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 2 p.m. Visitors may call from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

William E. Helderman

William E. Helderman, 89, of 1152 E. Sycamore St., Vincennes, passed away November 6, 2008 at 12:25 a.m. at Willow Manor. 

He was born July 31, 1919 in Harrison Township to Roy and Maude (Swain) Helderman.

William was a factory worker at Hamilton Glass where he retired in 1982 after 37 years.  He was a member of the Pentacostal faith. 

Survivors include his wife, Helen (Butke) Helderman whom he married on September 4, 1954 and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.

Services will be Monday, November 10 at 1 p.m., EDT, at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Barr officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home, 524 Broadway St.  Burial will take place in Hamline Chapel.

Avanda Lee (Stuffle) Hamm

Avanda Lee (Stuffle) Hamm, 77, of Vincennes, passed away Thursday August 21, 2008 at Willow Manor Convalescent Center.

She was born May 12, 1931 in Burns City, IN to the late Francis Alvin Stuffle and Niola C. (Barnes) Stuffle. She was a resident of the Vincennes area for most of her life and had worked at the Brown Shoe Company.

 She is survived by her daughter, Debra E. Hamm of Lawrenceville, IL; her son Harold L. Hamm of Vincennes; four sisters, Sharon Sipple of Arizona, Joan Halt and Mickie Jenkins both of Terre Haute and Nadine Hoffman of Farmersburg; five grandchildren, Melody Stavrakis, Lyla Theriac, Elizabeth Hamm, Jeffrey Hamm and Hayley Hamm; three great-grandchildren, Frances Theriac, Madelyn Stavrakis and Samuel Theriac.

Avanda was preceded in death by her husband, Earl D. Hamm on August 1, 2000 and her daughter, Kathy Earline Hamm on August 19, 2003. A brother, David Stuffle and a sister Jean Matherly also preceded her in death.

 A funeral service to celebrate Avanda’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday August 24, 2008 in Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home 505 Main Street. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.

Jedediah Quincey Gordon was stillborn August 19, 2008. 

He was the son of Neil and Traci (Reel) Gordon of Wheatland.

Cletis D. McNabb

Cletis D. McNabb, 67, of 106 Bowman Terrace, Vincennes, passed away August 19, 2008 at his residence. He was born February 3, 1941 in Daviess County.

Cletis was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church and had worked as a registered nurse. 

Survivors include two daughters Rita Buss and Annette Harper both of Vincennes; a brother Robert McNabb of Spencer and sisters Sharon Hanson and Arvada Okin both of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce (Clark) McNabb; mother Lola Callahan and step-father Clovis Callahan.

Graveside services will be held Monday, August 25 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Jason Donaldson officiating.

Betty Fulford

Betty Fulford, 85, Tennessee, formerly of Edwardsport, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Baptist Health Care Center.

 She was born Nov. 18, 1922, in Greene County, to George F. and Evie J. (Grounds) English. She, her husband and son owned and operated Edwardsport Lumber Yard.

Betty graduated from Switz City High School and was a member of the Eastern Star and the Bicknell First Baptist Church.  She married Edgar Fulford on July 16, 1941.

Survivors include a son, Lanny F. Fulford and his wife, Cris, of Ten Mile, Tenn.; and a grandson, Craig Fulford of Ten Mile.

She was preceded in death by her husband and several brothers and sisters. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bicknell First Baptist Church by the Rev. Seth Alexander and the Rev. Bob Duncan. Burial will be in the Edwardsport Town Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Rev. R.R.  “Dick” Willsey

The Rev. R.R. "Dick" Willsey, 74, Oaktown, quietly passed away at his home on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008.

He was pastor of the Mariah Creek Christian Church where he had preached for over 50 years. He was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Sullivan, to Arch and Maxine Willsey.

 Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Phyllis; sons, Ray Willsey Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Clinton and Bob Willsey of Freelandville; daughter, Jessica Underwood and her husband, Rodney, of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren, Shonda of Noblesville and friends, Andy Bender, of Attica, John of Evansville and Michael of Vincennes.

The Reverend Willsey was a 1951 graduate of Sullivan High School. He attended Indiana State Teacher's College in Terre Haute and Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, Tenn., and was ordained by the First Christian Church in Sullivan on Jan. 13, 1955. He served as minister of the Red Quarry Christian Church in French Lick from 1955 to 1958 and on Mother's Day of 1958 he began his Knox County ministry at the Freelandville and Mariah Creek Christian Churches. In 1986 he became full-time minister at Mariah Creek.

The Rev. Willsey was involved in numerous civic and community activities in and around Knox County including: member of the Edwardsport Masonic Lodge#429, Scottish Rite, Past Exalted Ruler of the Bicknell Elks Lodge #1421, along-time rabbit and poultry superintendent at the Knox County 4-H Fair, a member of the first admission board of the Freelandville Community Home, past member of the Freelandville Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Freelandville Improvement Club.

 The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the Rev. Matt Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in the Mariah Creek Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Mariah Creek Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Freelandville Community Home or the Mariah Creek Christian Church.

Dorothy Irene Bonhomme

Dorothy Irene Bonhomme, 83, of Vincennes passed away August 20, 2008 at BridgePointe Nursing Center with her family at her bedside.

 She was born July 14, 1925 in Vincennes the daughter of Jess & Gladys Kopp Bonhomme. She formerly worked for several years at the Brown Shoe factory and she retired after 35 years at Hamilton Glass Company as a Glass Cutter. She was a member of Old Cathedral Catholic Church.

She is survived by her sister, Thelma Pinkstaff of Vincennes, her sister-in-law, Betty Bonhomme, her nieces and nephews, Nancy McRae, and her husband Mike of Manchester, TN, Vickie Rinehart, and her husband Jerome, of Vincennes, IN, and Fred Garner of Vincennes. She was also blessed with several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mary Mallory, three brothers, Lester Bonhomme, Chester Bonhomme and Jackie Bonhomme in infancy.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday August 23, 2008 at the Old Cathedral Catholic Church; Fr John Schipp will be celebrant. She will be laid to rest next to her sister, Mary Mallory in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home.

Robert H. "Bob" Blackburn, 77, of 1615 Ritterskamp, Vincennes, passed away at 5:29 a.m. on August 18, 2008 at his residence. 

 He was born August 15, 1931 in Lawrence County, IL to Clyde James and Alice Elizabeth (Shick) Blackburn. Bob married Rosalie (Dawson) Blackburn on October 21, 1955 and she survives.

Bob was a member of Franklin Heights Christian Church. He was also a member of the Harmony Society, Elks, 40 et 8 and American Legion and he was an avid golfer. He served his country as a sergeant in the Korean War where he received the Combat Infantry Badge, two Bronze Stars and a V for Valor. 

He and his wife developed a very successful construction company, Blackburn Builders, focusing on quality homes, nursing facilities and apartment complexes. They were instrumental in promoting development of diversified businesses in the Vincennes area.

Survivors include his wife of Vincennes; sons Brent Blackburn and his wife Andrea of Vincennes, Troy Blackburn and his wife Mary of Winter Springs, FL and Kurt and his wife Amy of Broomfield, CO; daughters Kelly Ringfield and her husband Mark of Loveland, CO and Taunja Blackburn of Vincennes; grandchildren Blake Blackburn, Shaie Mason, Kailon Shrum, Melissa Ringfield, Brooke Blackburn, T C Blackburn, Cassie Madden, Sara Madden, Dawson Blackburn and Elisha Blackburn; sisters Mary C. Frederick of Bloomington and Margo Parks of Kailua, HA and brother Charles "Bill" Blackburn of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents;  a sister Gloria Blackburn and brothers Jim, Frank and Paul Blackburn.
